Welcome!
Hi everyone! My name is Ruth and I'm an author from Columbus, Ohio. I love literature, nature, and literature about nature ("liternature?"). Lately, I've been reading a lot of the latter. I'll read anything if it's set in a forest, especially if there's a little magic sprinkled in (a la Eowyn Ivey or Karen Russell). A big part of that comes from my continuous need to be outside. Even if I'm inside enjoying a book set in the wilderness, part of me wishes I were reading that same book by a campfire overlooking a lake after a long day of hiking (think: Cheryl Strayed's Wild without the rattlesnakes and busted feet).
My love of all things wild found its way into my writing, too. Much of my novel, Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance, is set in the natural world. I wrote a lot of it while I was cooped-up inside my apartment, so maybe writing was my way of coping with my cabin fever. When it came time to finish revisions for my editor, I brought my laptop with me to an actual cabin in the Southern Ohio woods. I sat out on the cabin's porch at night, listening to the crickets and the crackling of a dying campfire, and wrote the last sentence.

I started this blog to not only document my journey as a debut author, but to share my thoughts on the books I'm reading. Most of the books I choose will heavily feature the natural world in some way, but I'm open to all kinds of genres, from non-fiction memoirs to light fantasy to dystopian fiction. I'd also love to hear suggestions, too! I'm always on the hunt for a new book, so the more titles I have to choose from, the better.
Thanks for visiting my page. I'm looking forward to exploring new books, and I hope you'll join me!
